Optimized performance for Accedo One apps

Throughout the summer, the Accedo One team worked towards a key focus point: optimizing app performance to deliver faster load times for end users. This initiative was a success, resulting in significant performance enhancements across the board.

The objective 

Our primary goal was to improve the user experience by getting the video fan to the places they want to be - selecting and watching a video - faster and more efficiently. 

To achieve this, we focused on four key areas:

• Reduce load time of the apps
• Improve page scroll experience
• Improve page transition experience
• Shorten the start time of video playback

We set out to deliver measurable improvements in these areas, comparing performance data before and after implementation. This included metrics such as app load speed, the time it takes for users to start navigating the homepage, scrolling responsiveness on content-heavy pages, page transition times, and video playback start times.

We began by gathering detailed performance data on each of these actions. From there, we used the insights to set priorities, refactor network layers, optimize image caching and load times, remove unnecessary code, and streamline data calls - all to ensure a faster, more seamless user experience.

The outcome

We are pleased to share that the initiative was a resounding success, highlighting the value in coming together as a team in driving meaningful improvements.

For example, Fire TV now benefits from a 33% faster app launch, 36% quicker vertical page scrolling, and 46% speedier page navigation.

Apple devices have seen equally impressive gains, with search results loading 61% faster, a 28% reduction in app launch time, video playback starting 40% quicker, and navigation improved by 26%.

Roku also showcases a noticeably enhanced experience, with search results now 18% faster, app launches 33% quicker, video playback starting 29% faster, and navigation improved by 24%.
